McKerrows Revenge

McKerrow’s Revenge shows you how close Wellington is to tracks you never knew existed. Short Course Runners and Walkers run on high-quality trails with mix of bush, river valley and open areas whilst Long and Medium Course runners add in a solid climb up to the very best native bush and technical running you will get at XTERRA Wellington Trail Running.

Long Course

16 km

Technical running with one long climb early in the run

1:30 to 2:45 hours

Start at Wainui Athletics Club grounds and head up Reservoir Rd for about 100m. Take a right onto a grassy area and cross over the footbridge and turn right. Up Whakanui Track (this is the Revenge part) to the top, left onto McKerrow’s Track and run a clockwise 3.5 km loop. Parts of the 3.5km loop are not obvious and I do not recommend exploring this part of the course prior to event day unless you are an experienced tramper, have a good map, a GPS & Cell Phone, have plenty of time, and are prepared to backtrack if necessary. You have been warned. Head back down Whakanui veer right onto Gums Loop. Follow Gums Loop, take a right up Tana Umaga Track and then another right onto the Forest Loop. After Forest Loop follow the Sledge Track around until you see the bridge across the Wainuiomata River. Cross the bridge and head left for about 1.5km back down to Richard Prouse Park, and the Finish.

Medium Course

12 km

Technical running with one long climb early in the run

1:10 to 1:45 hours

6 km

Mostly flat easy running with one climb in the middle

35 to 50 minutes

Start at Wainui Athletics Club grounds and head up Reservoir Rd for about 100m. Take a right onto a grassy area and cross over the footbridge and turn left onto Gums Loop. Follow Gums Loop, take a right up Tana Umaga Track and then another right onto the Forest Loop. After Forest Loop follows the Sledge Track around until you see the bridge across the Wainuiomata River. Cross the bridge and head left for about 1.5km back down to Richard Prouse Park, and the Finish.
