Long Course
11 km
Winding tracks with good underfoot conditions. Climbing slowly the first half, descending the second. One short but absolute munter of a climb in the middle (you’ll walk it, trust me). Some great views over the city at night.
1:00 to 1:30
This course follows the black solid line shown above in an anti-clockwise direction. You start with a good kilometer of 4WD track allowing for passing and sorting out of your racing order before you hit the single trail. The next 15 minutes or so is a consistent but very runnable climb up to the ridgeline. Turn right, following a track called Towhai Traverse and adding in another loop that includes a thigh-killing climb, made acceptable only by the fact that its night time and you can’t see how long it goes on for. From the top you can see the whole world. Then you head left back down the hill (check out the views over Wellington) on another section of 4WD (more good passing opportunities!). Finally back into the bush for the final couple of km back to the finish line.

Short Course
6 km
Like the Long Course runners you get winding tracks with good underfoot conditions. Easy climb up, easy descent down. If you are a quick runner you should be going the Long Course
40 to 50 minutes
Just over 6km. This course follows the black solid line shown above in an anti clockwise direction. You start with a good kilometer of 4WD track allowing for passing and sorting out of your racing order before you hit the single trail. The next 15 minutes or so is a consistent but very runnable climb up to the ridgeline before you head left back down the hill (check out the views over Wellington) on another section of 4WD (more good passing opportunities!).
